Pixeldust Films to shoot Back on my Feet events
I'm pleased to announce that Pixeldust Films and Interactive has been selected as the official photographers for the Back on My Feet organization! Their mission statement: "Back on My Feet is a non-profit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of the homeless population by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem."
Given my own affiliation with running, it really is a thrill to be surrounded by such a positive organization while getting to engage in photography activities at the same time! Pixeldust Films will be shooting photos of the participants for the 20 in 24 race weekend, which includes the 20 in 24 Relay Challenge, The Lone Ranger Ultra Marathon, The Midnight Madness run, and the new Pajama Loop. We'll be down there on Saturday and Sunday, July 18th and 19th to capture the festivities. Our photography will then be made available for sale to the race participants.

Gradient Masks
I took a shot today that looked good in color. It also looked good in black and white. In fact, once I sharpened it up I really didn't know how I wanted to publish it, as it looked great both ways because I was able to focus lock on the eyes. Anyway, such decisions are trivial in a tool like Aperture, where you can have your digital cake and eat it, too. But instead, I decided to bring the photo into Tiffen's DFX suite to get a little creative outside of what Aperture is immediately capable of.

Marsedit gets the nod!
I read a ton of reviews on the internet about Mac software, cameras, lenses, hard drives, just about everything. The thing that's cool is that, for the most part, the reviews are written by regular folks such as myself. We may be power users, we may be experienced, we may be novice users, but we're all the same in one respect: anyone who takes time to write about a product is probably passionate about their experience, whether it's a good experience or a bad one. That spirit is honest, and somewhat more credible at times than reading a review from somebody who is clearly being paid to write it. The average consumer is largely responsible for fueling the internet economy, and in that spirit I'll just give a quick and dirty on why I finally chose Marsedit for the business of blogging over Ecto, MacJournal, Blogo, and a couple of other offline editors that weren't going to be best for my needs.
